Rita Devlin Marier is a reporter on the social media monitoring team of Bloomberg News' First Word service. She spends her day watching for market-moving and breaking business news on social media. Rita and her team are on the cutting edge of a new way to break and gather news, constantly working to find actionable trading items on the various social media platforms.
Rita studied economics and political science at the University of Ottawa, where she worked as a page in the House of Commons. After quickly becoming disenchanted with party politics, she continued to a Master's degree in international news at Laval University. She started her career as a correspondent in Stockholm for international news agency AFP.
She can enjoy tweets in English, French, Spanish, Swedish and German on a good day, and when not scouring the Internet for news, she can be found exploring Toronto and training for her first half-marathon.
